3/24/19 David's Rubber Band Dispenser

David has learned a lot about 3D printing just trying to get a rubber band gun to print. We came up with the idea to call it a rubber band dispenser because even toy guns are not allowed at his school. We figure that sometimes you have a friend, across the room, that needs a rubber band, right now. It makes us laugh. David has had to resolve all sorts of issues, crooked prints, not strong enough connectors, at first we didn't know the design calls for a rubber band to work right. The list goes on and on. The important thing is that David has persisted through all of that and won the day. For that, I am proud of him.

3/23/19 Massacre Grounds Trail, 3D Print and Kaleb Baptism

David's first 3d print came with some hard earned lessons. He'll have to tell you what some of them were. He printed a "Rapid Rubber Band Dispenser". Hey, even toy guns are not allowed at his school. I know there were many challenges including that the pieces wouldn't connect right and that a drill was involved. Also, rubber bands kept getting stuck. The thing that I am most proud of is that he kept at it, even though he felt very discouraged. Bravery, in the face of failure, leads to success.

Today, Rebecca and I joined Matt, Caleb Hinton, Abram Ellsworth, and his daughters Maggie and Amalie on a hike called the Massacre Grounds Trail. There is a story that gold miners were pinned down by Native Americans and killed and their gold taken. The location of the mine is still a mystery.

The trail ends at a waterfall.

Caleb rests on a rock. He and I had a great visit. I learned about his programming job and his side gig as an Internet Service Provider.

Matt, Rebecca, and Maggie climbed up to a high rock.

I joined them and saw the view.

Beautiful flowers are in bloom all along the trail.

Kaleb Haws was baptized today. Papa and I got to stand in the circle for his confirmation. I love this kid. He reminds me of Joseph in that he is his own person and not afraid to lead the way.

3/22/19 3D Printer Arrives

This morning I started Kon Mari'ing the office. Step 1 move everything out that I wasn't sure needed to stay. This is going to take a while.

David's 3D Printer arrived today. Look at how happy he is.

The one he picked came in parts that needed to be assembled like a fancy erector set.

I'll confess that I was nervous about how well this was going to work.

Success! David's first 3d printed shape was a part for the 3D printer. He learned from watching YouTube videos that the little plastic connector that is supposed to hold the filament feeding tube is poorly designed. So he held the tube in place with his hand while the first part printed. Now the tube stays in place as it should. Great job being a problem solver and doing your research David!

Today Heidi finished this great dress. Sorry, I don't have a better picture but it turned out beautifully.

End of the first day with the 3D printer. David has used up the test filament included with the printer and ordered more.

This is our good turn brainstorm from Family Home Evening.

3/21/19 Peter Preschool and Sarah Car Wash

Today we had a tight turn around for the Prius so Sarah went with me and I drove through a car wash. Sarah helped me dry off the car so that it was ready to rent. Sarah is a happy helper.

3/20/19 Park, Khan and Cubs

This morning we made it to the park before school. It was a fun time with the boys.

Today Joseph completed the 1st Grade Mission on Khan Academy. We are proud of his hard work.

Today, for Cub Scouts we learned all about pulleys and levers.
