12/7/16 Helping Hands

Amy Hallsted is a cute four-year-old girl who is in Joseph's preschool class. Yesterday Amy's mom Jessica told Heidi a funny story. Amy told her mom that when Joseph is a grown-up man like her daddy and has a real job she's going to marry him. Her mother clarified "Do you mean when he's back from his mission?" In response Amy scrunched up her nose and said "No when he's older than that!" We thought this was a cute story and reflects how differently little boys and little girls see the world. I am confident that Joseph has not begun to think about things so far down the road as this. I am glad that the two of them get to be good friends.
This afternoon Sarah and Rebecca had Activity Days. Rebecca's group drank hot chocolate and listened to Christmas stories. Sarah's group went to visit the Temple visitor's center.
This evening, prior to mutual, David met with Kyle Thornton his merit badge counselor for the family life merit badge. David had completed the last of his requirements and needed to go over them to get the badge signed off. Then during mutual he had his Board of Review where he completed his final requirement for advancement to the rank of Star. He actually has one more requirement that he needs to do by the end of this month. They told him that he needs to wrote a one page history of the events that happened in scouts during this year. He responded to the news as though he'd been asked to make a life-sized re-creation of Mount Rushmore. Writing is not David strongest suit. Luckily for him he has Heidi as his mom and me as his dad. We'll stick with him and help him get through.
After Heidi and I dropped off David at mutual Heidi noticed that there was a family loading belongings into a moving truck. Heidi thoughtfully asked if we should stop and help. It felt like the right thing to do. As it turned out we were able to use Heidi's tools to help disassemble some outdoor furniture so that it would fit. The family is driving to Florida so no second trip as an option here. It felt good to serve along side our friends Chris and Andrea Hale who were also helping with the move. It was a small crew but just right to help load the small moving truck. It felt good to be able to serve.

  1. Great journal entry filled with many memories that you'll want to save. Amy story lol. Ask Gramma when she first started seeing boys as potential husbands. Proud of David getting his Star. Remind him that he might ask for writing help from a retired English teacher of 35 years
