7/12/17 Museum of American History and the Library of Congress

Today we spent most of the day at the Smithsonian Museum of American History. David spotted right away this giant LEGO statue of Liberty. The kids all thought is was pretty cool.

Joseph, Peter and TJ found a friend in the "America on the Move" exhibit train station.

They had several full sized trains, cars and motorcycles as well as models of other types of transportation.

The museum has a fun invention exhibit called "Spark". The kids are encouraged to create prototypes of useful inventions.

Peter searches for just the right part.

David and Sarah connect electric motors to power.

Joseph and Peter enjoyed the 0-6 year old area.

Rebecca loved making the motors spin. She even built a little fan.

TJ made his own fan out of simple parts.

Peter loved building with blocks (and knocking them down).

Sarah made a ball from interlocking plastic pieces.

Lunch time in the cafeteria. Grammie and Grandpa were fun to have along.

Peter and Grammie are building their relationship.

David gives a speech in the Presidential exhibit. Sarah and Peter amuse themselves.

After the museum the rest of us went to a nearby park while Heidi searches the bowels of the Library of Congress.

Heidi even got her own library card. After speaking to several people and searching in multiple special collections no one has been able to trace where the book Gram Connelly wants us to see might be. Heidi and I agree that it feels like being in the movie National Treasure, but without the car chases.

  2. https://youtu.be/3_xNiiGsXBo This is the song I hear playing with your post. "One Little Spark" from a ride that left Epcot Center at WDW years ago. But it featured 2 characters, Figment (of your imagination) and Dreamfinder. This clip shows them singing the song with the writer Richard Sherman. If you don't know the Disney Greats the Sherman Brothers and the songs they wrote for Walt Disney then google them.
