7/15/17 Big Birthday and Big Air and Space

Along the way we passed the DC Temple on the freeway.

The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum near the Dulles Airport has a great tower where you can watch the planes landing.

Today is Rebecca's 11th birthday. She points out how small our van looks from up here.

The SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest jet powered plane ever built. So cool!

David and Rebecca flying the shuttle simulator.

Joseph and TJ made a Sun, Moon and Earth stick puppet to show how an eclipse works.

The space shuttle is big enough to fit a school bus in the bay doors. Pretty epic to see one in person.

Rebecca and David enjoyed the robotics area. They even had BB8 robots from Star Wars.

The guy at McDonalds couldn't believe when we ordered 19 cheese burgers.

The F-14 Tomcat like in Top Gun

The pod used to break the sound barrier in free fall.

Grammie and Grandpa Mangum treated us to the Imax Dream Big movie. It showed several amazing ways engineers solve big problems. Things like giant towers to rope bridges in underdeveloped countries. It was pretty inspiring.

We let the kids pick out a souvenir.

We picked up cupcakes from Sister Sam's Club. David's birthday is soon so we celebrated for him as well.

  1. Another DC day cramming unique sites and sounds into the keiki memory banks. Definitely an A+ on planning and executing an 8 day visit to the Nations Capitol. It looks like this was a birthday celebration that will be long remembered by Rebecca and David

  2. Chris has been interested in your blog posts. He saw this one and excitedly stated "David got a Triangle!" after reading the caption. I asked him "What do you do with at triangle?" and he replied "You play with it." We enlarged the photo because he wanted to see what Sarah and TJ got but he still couldn't tell from the photo what TJ had picked out and he wasn't sure what Rebecca's choice did. He made me show him the rest of your travel blog. So he is now all caught up.

    1. TJ got and F-14 Tomcat like Top Gun or JAG (probably Heidi's third favorite TV show). Rebecca's toy lights up and has glitter that floats down.
