7/5/17 Lebanon Tennessee to Bristol Virginia

We woke up this morning at the KOA in Lebanon Tennessee. The traffic after the biggest fireworks show in the country was surprisingly light.

We made our first attempt at pancakes on our new stove. After a little practice they turned out just fine.

The weather was sunny so the kids went to the edge of the clearing to explore.

The kids had to run back to the van as the sky suddenly darkened and then heavy rain fell. Heidi had been working hard on packing so all that was left out was our large tarp. Heidi and I tried to fold it up as a strong wind threatened to turn the tarp into a giant kite. We quickly changed plans and simply stuffed the tarp into the back of the van. I think that I will long remember standing in the pouring rain as 20 feet of tarp blew past my head as Heidi and I frantically stuffed it in the back of the van.

We decided to stop at the store while the worst of the rain passed. Multiple accidents on the road slowed the traffic to a crawl. We are grateful to Heavenly Father that we waited out the storm and were not on the road when the accidents happened.

In Virginia we found a place to mail some postcards.

In the evening we rested our heads in an Econolodge. It was not as nice as the La Quinta we stayed in but it was less expensive and did get us out of the storm.
