7/18/17 Priesthood Restoration and Hill Cumorah Pageant

This fun KOA has a bridge that leads to the restrooms. David noticed that it is home to several spiders. Fascinating but watch out or you'll walk into a web.

Today we entered New York overshooting our exit just a bit. We had to backtrack a few miles to visit the site of the Restoration of the Priesthood in current day Oakland Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.

John the Baptist confers the Aaronic Priesthood on Joseph and Oliver.

Peter, James and John restore the Melchizedek Priesthood.

Displays at the visitor's center.

Joseph and Emma's home, just down the street from her parent's house. At one point they expected to live here forever.

Peter Whitmer farm. Joseph translated 30% of the Book of Mormon here.

Familiar looking name.

Waiting for the Hill Cummorah pageant to begin.

The 3 Nephites (?) visit with Peter.

Mormon stopped by to say "hello".

Heidi's friend from high school band. She hasn't known where she was for years. Now they've traded email addresses. Becky lives in Florence, not too far from us in AZ. Crazy to meet them on the far side of the country.

Joseph and Peter behaved pretty well during the show. The special effects and spectacle seemed to hold their attention.

One of the "wicked Nephites" who gets killed during the earthquake at Christ's death. Fire, water, explosions this was a pretty intense show effects wise.

With a cast of 750 people there was much to see in this giant spectacle. Still, perhaps due to the 9:30 pm start time, I couldn't help but nod a few times. The Book of Mormon is true and it was great seeing thousands of people watching a show about it. Still, I can't help thinking about Elijah and how the Spirit wasn't in the storm or the earthquake but it was a still, small voice.

  1. Another day of spiritual memories. The Hill Cumorah Pageant is an event on many members' wish list. Glad you got there in time to meet some of the cast. Sounds like awesome SFX kept little boys interested. Fun covered bridge to luas. David's spider comment lol.
